Clear All SMS - Delete ALL Text Messages from your iPhone at once (versions for 1.x and 2.x)
Why Apple still has yet to implement something along these lines is beyond me, seeing as how basically every phone I've owned before, had this functionality. Very useful for sys-admins, or simply for those with *lots* of text messages from *lots* of people.
This little tidbit provides a 1-Touch, clear them all, just like I (and my colleagues) needed. There is no dialog verifying you actually meant to hit it (yet). At some point I may add it if people scream loud enough, but I personally keep it on a separate springboard and enjoy the single-touch ease of use.
Native Install
The This is now available under Utilities as "Clear All SMS" in Cydia.

Back story:
Long story short I woke up to about ~600 text msgs on my iPhone, which wasn't terribly rare, and had occurred on occasion. However this was the straw that broke the camel's back, I refused to click the interface well over 1200 times just to delete those damned alarms!
So, I set out to find a way to nuke all Text messages in a single "click", if you will.
I am happy to report, success. The Apple dev's used SQlite for storage of SMS messages (amongst many other things, of course.) Thus, simply removing all of them is a rather easy chore. See the attached file to this story, for use on your iPhone.
P.S. If you're afraid of accidentally triggering it, you might want to dedicate a private springboard (desktop). I hope this makes someone else's life easier, at least until Apple does something about it.

Am I missing something? I have over 1380 sms text messages to clear.
Do I have to create a new account first?

ClearAllSMS text in the download
I downloaded your file and was just looking at each file with Notepad.
WTF are all of these hostile comments your program for?
Is that hostility toward the SMS messages or us?
It makes me hesitant to install it seeing them:

The hate was at the time,
The hate was at the time, directed at the ~1000 or so individual text messages on my phone. Never fear, colorful comments are the norm with me.
Native?
I didn't want to jail break my iPhone, but as a sysadmin I'm in the same situation.
By Native do you mean un-jailbroken? I searched for Cydia and SMS in the AppStore and didn't find it.
Thanks =)
Allie
ah
Well, native meant through the jail-broken installer(s). I've debated rewriting this and putting it up on the app store, but it's such a niche application I figured most guys like us would have jail-broken phones.
re: jailbreaking
Indeed. And I've thought many times about it but never did it.
I did find a really great trick, though.
I originally setup my mobile in the alias file as "55555555555@txt.att.net", and I had the same thing you guys have: A billion text messages in separate conversations from incrementing numbers.
My colleague, a former cingular customer who recently bought an iPhone, never updated his alias. And his alert messages come through one number and into one conversation.
I never had cingular (was a vzw customer), but the alias "5555555555@mobile.mycingular.com" still works for me. And now all of my alert messages come into one conversation instead of many.
Hope this helps some folks out. I'd still like to see your app in the store, as I wonder how long it will take cingular/att to squash this loophole. Or not. But it's still a possibility.
iPHONE
IM NEW WITH THE IPHONE , JUST WANTED TO KNOW HOW EACTLY I CAN GET ALL MY MESSEGES AS ONE CONVERSATION, PLEASE HELP
Please post on App Store
I'm not jailbroken, but would gladly pay for this app. As would non-techy friends of mine.
Another vote for the App Store
OMG, this could be the first reason I've found to jailbreak my phone. Since automatic fetch is broken in 2.1 I use SMS to notify me of new emails. Having to delete each text is driving me nuts! I'd much prefer it to be an App Store item and pay a buck or two though. Unfortunately an "are you sure?" button would probably be mandatory before Apple would approve it.
I'm guessing this was not built in xcode. Can you even access the SMS database from xcode?
App Store
I'd buy and encourage my whole office to buy - I get market alerts via txt message and especially in a volitile market like we've had they really rack up -I decideded to just stop delteting but it seems to be slowing down loading up the list of messages.
I'm not jail broken and know lots of people in my business that would buy this app.
Grouping email to SMS in a single contact
Allie,
Thanks for sharing that with us. A few guys at work don't want to jailbreak their phones, and this is certainly a quick and easy way to isolate all email-to-sms messages in a single contact. I'm actually running this way now as well.
Anne,
I do plan on making an Appstore tool that can handle the clearing of all sms, along with a bunch of other features. Once it's in beta, I'll let some of you folks test it out. So much to do, so little time.
any progress on getting this
any progress on getting this up on the store? system alerts 1, me 0.
